The World Youth & Young Adult Online Ethics Symposium
is set to frame the future development of character and ethics in the 21st Century. The online event takes place throughout
the month of March 2007.
Young people from around the world are invited to define and frame the expected morality of
their generation and those to come. The agenda is jam packed with what they will, and will not accept. Their goal is what
adults the world over have failed to do -- hammer out and enforce a universal code of ethics adaptable to all nations, cultures,
and religions.
The youthful Symposium is the first international online gathering to promote or bring youth and young
adults together to decide their own future ethos. The event is hosted by CEFE--The Center for Ethics in Free Enterprise, a
non-profit division of the Washington DC based Global Academy Online, Inc.
CEFE’s research suggest that few,
if any, education systems in the world, including those in the USA, have taken seriously the role of our youth and young adults
to explore borderless opportunities to create and suggest a universal Ethos. The United Nations has failed completely to frame
an effective code for itself or its members. “The UN is suffering from an exposed moral bankruptcy that permeates throughout
the entire organization according to its own studies”, notes Fred DiUlus, founder of CEFE. “Whatever direction
it may attempt to give to anyone, including member nations and their citizens is, and will continue to be, suspect.”
On
the other hand, DiUlus notes, “We can bring young people together in a non threatening, objective, online environment
and let them run with it. They expect to be taken seriously by today’s organization leaders, not only here, but everywhere
in the world. This is one step in a purposeful journey that will follow them the rest of their lives.”
Adults
are conspicuously absent from the event serving only to guide and keep the young delegates on the general track. Once the
show is underway, DiUlus speculates, “I believe everyone will want to see the results -- teachers, parents, political
leaders, you name it. For thirty days”, he goes on to say, “the youth and young adults of our world will be running
and picking apart scenarios on the future of ethics in their lives and ours.”
Proposals, papers, and programs
are encourage to be submitted anytime between now and the event. Drafting a set of human values respected, followed, and enforced
worldwide according to the CEFE Symposium website is a prelude to what the late Gene Rodenberry coined as ‘The Prime
Directive’.
