Young people from around the world will gather
online through the month of March 2007 to define and frame the expected morality of their generation. The place for this event
is The World Youth & Young Adult Online Ethics Symposium sponsored by the Center for Ethics in Free Enterprise. CEFE,
as it is called, is a Washington DC based non-profit division of Global Academy Online, Inc., a world leader in online education
research and development.
The youthful Symposium is the first international online gathering
to promote or bring youth and young adults together to decide their own future ethos. The agenda is jam packed with what they
will, and will not accept. Their goal is what adults the world over have failed to do -- hammer out and find a way to enforce
a universal code of ethics adaptable to all nations, cultures, and religions.
The Center for Ethics and Free Enterprise
research suggest that few, if any, education systems in the world including those in the USA, have taken seriously the role
of youth and young adults to explore borderless opportunities to create and suggest a universal Ethos. The United Nations
attempts to frame global ethical frameworks has failed completely primarily due to the lack of consensus of its members to
frame an effective code. “The UN”, according to Fred DiUlus, founder of CEFE and CEO of its sponsor, “is
suffering from an exposed moral bankruptcy that permeates throughout the entire organization even according to its own studies.”
DiUlus goes on to note, “Whatever direction the United Nations Assembly may attempt to give to anyone, including member
nations and their citizens, is and will continue to be, suspect.”
CEFE’s design is to bring young people
together in a non-threatening, objective, online environment and let them run with it. “This is one step in a purposeful
journey that will follow them the rest of their lives”, states DiUlus.
Adults are conspicuously absent from the
event serving only to guide and keep the young delegates on the general track. Proposals, papers, and programs are encouraged
to be submitted anytime between now and the event. Drafting a set of human values respected, followed, and enforced worldwide
according to the CEFE Symposium website is a prelude to what the late Gene Roddenberry, the Star Trek creator coined as “The
Prime Directive”. |
